A powerful vrat dedicated to Lord Vishnu’s Trivikram form that leads devotees toward peace, prosperity, and salvation.
In Hindu tradition, Ekadashi fasting holds immense spiritual importance. Among all Ekadashis, Apara Ekadashi of Jyeshtha Krishna Paksha is considered highly sacred. It is believed that worshipping Lord Vishnu on this day destroys even the gravest sins. This Ekadashi is also known as Achala Ekadashi.
The word “Apara” means limitless or infinite. This vrat is believed to give endless spiritual merit and prosperity.
It is called Achala Ekadashi because the punya gained from this vrat never diminishes. Devotees observe this fast for: – peace – prosperity – spiritual purification – liberation from sin
According to the scriptures, King Yudhishthira once asked Lord Krishna: “What is the significance of the Ekadashi that falls during Jyeshtha Krishna Paksha?
Lord Krishna replied: “This sacred Ekadashi is known as Apara and Achala Ekadashi. Whoever observes this vrat with devotion becomes free from sins and gains honor in this world.”
Lord Krishna explained that the merit gained from: – holy pilgrimages – charity – yajnas – difficult penance can all be obtained simply by observing Apara Ekadashi with sincerity.
That is why this vrat is called: “The Ekadashi That Destroys Sins”
Lord Krishna said that worshipping Lord Trivikram on this day destroys sins like: – false testimony – lying – cheating – criticizing others – injustice and unrighteous acts This vrat purifies both mind and soul.
Long ago, there lived a righteous and noble king named Mahidhwaj. He was kind, spiritual, and loved by his people. But his younger brother Vajradhwaj was cruel, jealous, and full of hatred toward him. The younger brother constantly envied the king’s popularity and goodness.
One dark night, Vajradhwaj secretly murdered King Mahidhwaj. He buried the king’s body beneath a Peepal tree deep inside the forest.
Because of his untimely death, Mahidhwaj’s soul could not attain peace and began wandering as a restless spirit near the same tree. The spirit troubled everyone passing through the forest.
After some time, the great sage Dhaumya Rishi passed through that forest. Using his divine vision, the sage understood the entire story of the restless spirit.
Filled with compassion, Dhaumya Rishi decided to free King Mahidhwaj from his suffering. He observed the sacred fast of Apara Ekadashi and dedicated all the spiritual merit of the vrat to the trapped soul.
By the divine power of Apara Ekadashi, King Mahidhwaj was finally freed from the ghostly existence. He received a divine celestial body and ascended to heaven in a heavenly aircraft.
Lord Krishna concluded that: Apara Ekadashi has the power to free a soul from even the greatest suffering and sins.
